VBS 2011! Gold Rush

We are excited to be having the TBC of CT teens and sponsors coming to help us with our second VBS! Thank you so much to my brother-in-law and sister, Matt and Melanie Harper, for doing the back breaking work of traveling from CT to FL with teens and a game plan to help us put on our VBS! Thanks also to my wife, Jen, for all the organization and work putting together the following flyer. Without their help, this VBS would have been impossible! Thank you!

We are gearing up for Vacation Bible School August 2-6. We are excited to have the teen group from TBC in CT coming down to help us run our first VBS. We will be using Answers in Genesis “Egypt File” material.

Over the past year I’ve been working to increase our web visibility. Last night I found a website that lists all the different places to register your website online to get web visibility. I spent about 1.5 hours filling out forms all over the internet! This morning I typed “Truth Baptist Church” in Google and we showed up on the first page! I also typed “Truth Baptist Church Jacksonville, FL” in Google and we showed up on the map and our website is first on the list of websites!

These placements are an answer to prayer and just in time for our coming radio campaign at the end of this month and beginning of next!

Thanks for all your prayers for TBC! The Lord is working in my heart as well as in the hearts of our regular attenders. This past month the Lord brought us a young Navy couple who have already been a great blessing! Others are still considering our church. Please pray that God will give us wisdom as we continue to work for Him!

September’s Advertisement

September will be our third month to run an advertisement in the Money Pages magazine. Our first two months were full page ads, September and October will be half page ads. Here is the half page ad I submitted last evening. Thank you to Lisa for checking it over for errors and making a few suggestions! Here is a link to a .pdf version. Week #2

Time is flying by quickly! I can’t believe we are in our 2nd week already! God is doing so much and providing so much grace to us as we work through this rookie stage. I am loving being a pastor! It is a lot of work, but I am thankful to invest the strength that God gives in something that is eternal!

Visiting

This past week we attempted to visit or at least contact everyone who came to the Grand Opening. We made up some labels and stuck them on loaves of bread as a means saying “thank you for coming!” I was greatly encouraged by the response we received from the visits!

God is Working!

I am so excited that God is answering our prayers! Several couples along with several individuals have made the decision to faithfully attend Truth Baptist Church! These decisions are not light hearted, but have been made after much prayer and seeking God for wisdom. I am deeply humbled, yet greatly encouraged at the decisions that have been made.

Faithful Helpers

I am so grateful to God for faithful helpers in the ministry! I could not even begin to personally do all the work that has to be accomplished each week to keep the church running.

I am so grateful to Jen for all the help, counsel, and encouragement she gives every day. She is truly a help meet.

Will has been a great help in the ministry. He joined me for visitation last Tuesday evening! He faithfully shows up an hour early on Sunday mornings to help set up all the equipment and chairs! He shows up Sunday evening early to make sure things are ready. He is also a faithful attender which means so much to me!

Josh and Joanna also do so much for the ministry. Joanna does a lions share of the vitally important nursery detail. She helps set up and tear down the nursery. She wrote a news article for the website, and brings a cheerful smile and willing heart to church with her.

Josh is also faithful in helping set up / tear down, run back to our house when we forget things (two weeks in a row!). This evening he took a great load off my back by leading the singing. He did a great job! I might get him to lead Sunday mornings! He also takes care of counting the money with the help of Will so that I don’t have to be involved in knowing what people give!

We’ve Got lots of door hangers to pass out!

Yesterday we received our first shipment of 5000 full color thick card stock door hangers! I think they look sharp! Our goal is to pass out 10,000 door hangers before our Grand Opening on July 26th! We have a lot of work ahead of us! Please pray that we will be able to get them delivered. I went out this morning and passed out about 150 in 1:40 minutes. The houses were a little bit farther apart than many of the neighborhoods in this area. I plan to go out in the morning and evening as much as possible.

First Response!

Just 5 minutes ago I received the first call from a man who received a door hanger this morning! I am going to visit him within the next day or so! He lives on the first street I passed flyers out on!

Please pray that the Lord will use these flyers and our Money Pages Advertisement to bring people to our church and into His Kingdom!

Money Pages Ad – July 6-8th

People will be receiving our full page advertisement in their mailboxes July 6-8th. Our advertisement is in the middle of about 30 other pages of advertisements. Please pray that people will open the magazine and turn to our advertisement! As you probably know, many of these magazines go directly into the trash. The good news is that the magazine goes to 57,000 households in our area.

Website Updates

Our church website has undergone a major overhaul in the last week. If you haven’t seen it in a while, please take a look! There is more that I would like to do to it, but I am having to learn everything as I go! As of right now, it should be ready for visitors. If you see any errors or problems on the page, please let me know!

Full Speed Ahead!

We are working full-time at getting ready for our Grand Opening July 26th. Here are just a few things that we have been working on…

Facility and Date Solidified

We’ve scheduled our Grand Opening for July 26, 2009! The building is reserved. Nursery plans are under way.

Sound and Equipment

The piano, and sound system have arrived. The wireless microphone is on the way. Praise the Lord that I have been able to save around $500 by shopping around online!

Advertising

Money Pages Ad

An advertising strategy has been planned and is being executed. After comparing different advertising options and pricing, we decided to run a full page advertisement in the Money Pages magazine. The magazine is delivered to over 57,000 households in the three zip codes surrounding our location. The advertisement sound be delivered July 6-8th. Please pray that people will open the magazine and turn to our page. I know that God can use this mass distribution to reach people with the news who are looking for a church like ours.

Door Hangers

We are also planning to distribute as many door hangers as possible between the time they arrive and July 26th. The door hangers have been designed and are being printed. We should receive them on or before July 1st.

My goal is to distribute at least 10,000 flyers to the areas closest to our location. Please pray that we will have the strength and endurance to get these out in mid-90 degree weather.

If any of you are available and would like to get some exercise, we could sure use the help! We would be glad to house and provide meals for anyone from out of town!

We can design flyers and advertise till we run out of time and money, but it will all be to no avail if God does not work in the hearts of people to bring them to Truth Baptist Church. Please pray diligently that God will use these tools and our efforts to draw people to himself (John 6:44).

We are totally dependent on God to equip us to do His will. This past Wednesday evening we found encouragement in the fact that God can equip us to do His will.

Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, 21 equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. – Hebrews 13:18-21

Tax Exemption Application

Please pray that our application for state sales tax exemption is approved! I sent in the application last week. The goal is to get tax exemption before we begin making big purchases.

Last week I did some work preparing the application. The State of Florida requires several documents that I had to prepare.

Articles of Incorporation – already had them.
Proof of Physical location – I had to write up a use agreement in which I agreed under contract to let the church use our house as its physical location. If we run into trouble with this, we will have to wait until we actually begin renting a facility before we can apply for exemption.
Schedule of Services or meeting times – I had to design a brochure that listed our meeting times. I decided to head the design in a direction that we will be able to morph into a door hanger.
